Richard B. “Dick” Cady, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at the MHP Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born January 21, 1928, in South Dakota, the son of Boyd Leroy and Maude Vera McKenney Cady. He graduated from Viola High School with the class of 1946. Following graduation Dick served in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1950. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Iowa and lived in Coon Rapids for a short time. On December 22, 1953, he was united in marriage to Marilyn McGuire at the Carroll Methodist Church in Carroll, Iowa. Together, Dick and Marilyn lived various places in Iowa. The family settled in Oskaloosa and Dick went to work for Dickinson Construction. He traveled all over the state of Iowa doing electrical, HVAC, and mechanical work. In 1993, after over 40 years with Dickinson Company he retired. On November 24, 2018, Marilyn passed away. He was a member of the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed watching television, reading the newspaper and staying up on current events, building bird houses, and listening to country music. His family includes his four children, Linda and Mark Goodman of rural Rose Hill, Rick and Rhonda Cady of Oskaloosa, Sharon and John Aschinger of Oskaloosa, and Joann and Randy Plate of Oskaloosa; nine grandchildren, Jamie (Dustin) Gerard, Crystal Cady (Cole Nilson), Amber (Shannon) Baldock, Daniel (Deanna) Goodman, Ashley (Trent) Kerr, Mindy (Jake) Griffin, Brenda (Davey) Malloy, Chelsey (Greg) Johnson, and Ben (Amanda) Plate; eighteen great grandchildren, Logan Baldock, Brooke Baldock, Peyton Baldock, Kadin Gerard, Addison Gerard, Lincoln Nilson, Kira Doty, Jaylynn Kerr, Tanner Kerr, Trevin Griffin, Saige Griffin, Aubrey Plate, Hannah Plate, Charley Johnson, Drew Johnson, Drake Goodman, Hayden Goodman, Ally Goodman, Milo Malloy and two more great grandchildren on the way this Spring; a brother and his wife, Harley and Marcia Cady of Sac City; a sister, Norene Williams of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his wife Marilyn, Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a great grandson, Dane Baldock; a brother, Merrill Cady; a sister, Maxine Shaw and a brother-in-law, Harold Loveall. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 28, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Shawn Allee officiating. Graveside Military Honors will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event. The funeral service will be live streamed at the funeral home’s YouTube Channel for those wishing to support the family from a distance. Visitation will be held at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa beginning Sunday, December 27, 2020 after 12:00 noon with family present from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa.
