Randy Binns

April 27, 1963 - January 18, 2019

Randy Binns, 55, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, January 18, 2019, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born April 27, 1963, in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Emmert Leroy and Betty May Donley Binns. He graduated from Knoxville High School with the class of 1981. While in high school Randy joined the Iowa National Guard, following graduation he transferred to active duty in the United States Army. He served overseas in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Following September 11, 2001, he served in the missions Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom. Through his over 20-year military career he earned the rank of Sergeant E-5 and was honorably discharged in 2006. Randy’s deep sense of patriotism and love of country did not change at all after retirement from active duty. He continued to serve with the military funeral honor guard in Oskaloosa. Randy tried his hand at various other occupations including, doing construction work, sales, operating a tow truck for Jerry’s Automotive, and selling cars. Recently he completed auctioneer school and became a licensed auctioneer in Iowa. He owned and operated River Chant Auction Service for the past couple years. On January 29, 2000, he was united in marriage to Angela Binns at the Nazarene Church in Oskaloosa. He was a member of the Gateway Church of the Nazarene where he served as a greeter, the Oskaloosa V.F.W. and American Legion, the National Auctioneer Association and the Iowa Auctioneer Association. He enjoyed watching movies, fishing, playing dice and card games, target shooting, and visiting with his friends at the cafe. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and line dancing. He had a servant heart and gave selflessly of his time and talents. His family includes his wife of nearly 19 years, Angela Binns of Oskaloosa; four children, Angela Binns of Germany, Dixie (Eich) Kuntz of Delta, Brandy (Shawn) Harmison of Pleasant Hill, and Dustin (Casey) Beyer of New Sharon; ten grandchildren, Caitlyn Kuntz, Grace Kuntz, Josephine Kuntz, Abigail Kuntz, Devin Harmison, Tiffany Harmison, Greyson Lewis, Shyla Harmison, Trey Beyer, and Aubrey Beyer; six sisters, Sharon Miller of Colorado, Vonnie (David) Shride of Iowa, Vickie Meisinger of Iowa, Sandra (Larry) Renard of Iowa, Kathie (David) Caylor of Iowa, Cheryl (Joe) Howell of Iowa; three brothers, Dareld (Laurie) Binns of California, Dennis (Cris) Binns of Iowa, Steven (Sandra) Binns of Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Randy was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Alicia Worthington and Pamela Gritts. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 25, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. in the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa with Pastor James Tower and Pastor Darren Melton officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 3-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Randy Binns Memorial Fund. The funds will be disbursed to local Emergency Responders, Gateway Church of the Nazarene and College Avenue Friends Church.
