Lorretta Jo Sytsma

November 3, 1955 - December 2, 2021

Lorretta Jo Sytsma, age 66, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa after her battle with cancer. She was born on November 3, 1955, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Clifford L. and Vera M. (Fecht) Krutsinger. She attended high school in Tipton, Iowa, and graduated with the Class of 1974. On December 21, 1991, she was united in marriage to Owen Sytsma at the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa. To this union a son was born, Cody. Lorretta worked at the Telephone company for a time before she started working in childcare for several years. Lastly, she was working at the Village Cleaners in Oskaloosa until illness forced her to retire. Lorretta attended the Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa for many years, where she was active with helping teach Sunday School and working in the kitchen. She was currently attending the Rose Hill Church. Lorretta was a dedicated Iowa Hawkeyes fan and carried that enthusiasm to any team she was rooting for. She was a caring, people person, who was always working on preparing a meal or a craft to gift to someone in need. Above all else, she loved her family, especially her granddaughter, Lennon, who was the light of her life. She is survived by her husband, Owen Sytsma of Oskaloosa; a son, Cody (Jordan) Sytsma of Ankeny; her granddaughter, Lennon Sytsma; her father, Clifford L. Krutsinger of Clarence, Iowa; brother, Clifford P. (Tina) Krutsinger of Clarence, Iowa and a niece, Katie (Nick Shirley) Krutsinger of Oxford Junction, Iowa. Lorretta was preceded in death by her mother, sister Doris (infant) and sister Lynette Canady. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 6, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa. A social hour will be held in the church fellowship hall on Monday at 12:00 p.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Sunday evening, December 5, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. The service will be available to watch on First Assembly of God Church Oskaloosa's YouTube Channel for those unable to attend. Memorials may be made to the Blank Children’s Hospital.
