Lee Edward Moffet

November 21, 1928 - April 4, 2018

Lee Edward Moffet, 89, of Eddyville, died Wednesday, April 4, 2018, while under Hospice care at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. He was born Wednesday, November 21, 1928, in Oskaloosa, the son of Homer and Jennie Morgan Moffet. Lee attended Prine Country School. Early on, Lee worked for Homer Prine on his farm. Lee later joined the U.S. Air Force. Following his discharge, Lee went to work at Clow Valve in Oskaloosa for 14 years. On April 27, 1956, Lee was united in marriage to Ruth Cochran in Oskaloosa. He later worked for 25 years at William Penn College in Facilities Maintenance and he retired from there in the early 90’s. Early on he farmed North of town. In 1977, they moved to their current farm southwest of Oskaloosa. He enjoyed being on the farm, raising livestock, and having pets around the farm. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the American Legion. Lee enjoyed coffee and cookies with the neighbors and visiting with friends that would stop by their house. He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years: Ruth Moffet of Eddyville; a daughter: Virginia Moffet (& Scott VerSteegh) of Eddyville; a grandson: Shawn (& Jen) Veenstra of Pella; a great grandson: Lincoln Veenstra of Pella; a brother: Harry Moffet of Oskaloosa; a sister-in-law: JoAnn Moffet of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews. Lee was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: John Moffet; three sisters: Betty Moffet, Clara (& Howard) Ludwick and Mary (& Carl) Van Zomeren; and a sister-in-law: Helen Moffet. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 10:30 AM in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Graveside Military Rites will be given by the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. A period of open visitation will be held Friday, April 6, 2018 from 11 A.M. until 6 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice.
