Kay A. D'Agostino

April 13, 1924 - September 11, 2018

Kay A. (Kathleen Agnes) D’Agostino, 94, of Oskaloosa died peacefully Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born April 13, 1924, in Oasis, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary Agnes Coleman Hensley. She attended school in Oskaloosa and graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1942. Kay had a lifelong zest for life. She was outgoing and self-confident which served her well throughout her life. Following school, she remained in Oskaloosa to help care for her widowed father. She worked at Matthew Lumber Company and J.S. Stafford Insurance Company for 10 years. She enjoyed the activities of many clubs and sororities in Oskaloosa. In 1969, following the death of her father, her adventurous spirit led her to Dallas, Texas. She worked in an insurance office while there. On May 24, 1975, she was united in marriage to Tullio “Mike” D’Agostino. Later they moved to Chicago and then Los Angeles. She was quick to get involved in the communities they lived in through doing volunteer work. While in Los Angeles they had a 31foot sailboat and did a lot of sailing and competitive racing. Kay loved the ocean and became a very good sailor. Mike died April 1, 1999. After Mike’s death in 1999, Kay moved back to Oskaloosa to be near her family. Once settled in Oskaloosa her outgoing and gregarious personality allowed her to re-connect with many old friends and get involved with various organizations. She loved golfing, sailing, bowling, reading and horseback riding. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. Kay’s family is thankful for the care and love she received while making her home at Crystal Heights. Kay is survived by nieces and nephews, including: Mary Jo (Craig) Akers of Albia, (John) Patrick (Kham) Sodak, Kathy (Tony) Sedrel, Diane (Andy) Davis and Mike (Trina) Sodak all of Oskaloosa, Andy (Elaine) Smith of Oregon, Bill (Sue) Smith of California, Mary (Don) Prostine of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Dr. Ron (Fran) D'Agostino and Rita (Dr. George) Petrossian all of New York; a sister in law, Gilda D'Agostino of New York; and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Kay was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters and their husbands, Eileen and Merle “Bud” Smith and Marion and Irving Sodak. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend John Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. Friday morning in the Bates Funeral Chapel. A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 Friday evening and visitation with the family will follow the Rosary until 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Crystal Heights Care Center Activity Fund.
