Karen Winkleman

Karen Winkleman, age 77, of Oskaloosa, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Karen was born on October 4, 1944, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Albert D. and Ivyl (Grant) Leatherman. She attended Northern Mahaska High School and graduated with the Class of 1962. On February 1, 1969, she was united in marriage to Leslie Winkleman in Oskaloosa. To this union two daughters were born, Stacey and Mindy. Karen worked at the Big Smith Overall Factory in Oskaloosa for a time before taking a job at Rolscreen (now Pella Corp) where she continued working until retiring in 2006. She enjoyed shopping and loved spending the holidays with her family, friends and especially her “adopted grandchildren”. She is survived by her husband, Leslie Winkleman of Oskaloosa; her two daughters, Stacey Winkleman of Oskaloosa and Mindy Winkleman of Knoxville. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Nellie Winkleman and Dee Anderson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Fleming and two brother-in-laws, Wesley Winkleman and Carroll Winkleman. As was Karen’s wish, her body will be cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
