Hallene M. Darland

Hallene M. Darland, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born July 20, 1928, in Fredrick, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Edna Gilchrist Lenox. Early on Hallene worked at Tower Park Nursing Home in Oskaloosa. On February 5, 1948, she was united in marriage to Carl O. Darland. Carl died on May 4, 2017. To this union five children were born, Michael, Kenny, Mark, Connie, and Michele. Following their marriage Hallene stayed home to care for her children and home. She was an active member of Park Church of Christ in University Park, where she volunteered as often as she could. She also volunteered at the Food Bank. Hallene looked forward to hosting coffeetime at her home daily. She especially looked forward to family gatherings and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her family includes her four children, Michael (Diane) Darland of University Park, Kenny (Debbie) Darland of Montezuma, Michele (Steve) Johnson of Beacon, and Mark Darland of Oskaloosa; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Hallene was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Connie Bateman; two grandchildren, Jason Darland and Ashley Darland; a great granddaughter, Brittany Medlin; four brothers, Cloyd, Cecil, Don, and a brother in infancy, Arlan Lenox; and two sisters, Arlene Swangel and Maxine Price. Graveside memorial service and burial will be held Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in the Coal Creek Cemetery southwest of Oskaloosa. A procession will form at 9:15 Thursday morning at the Bates Funeral Chapel for those wishing to attend the service. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. As was Hallene’s wish her body has been cremated and no visitation is planned. Memorials may be made to Coal Creek Cemetery.
