Douglas Lee Johannes

April 9, 1965 - April 8, 2021

Douglas Lee Johannes, 55, of Houston, Texas, died Thursday, April 8, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born April 9, 1965, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Dorman and Mary Alice Tyler Johannes. He attended Eddyville High School. He was united in marriage to Catherine Hynick. Following high school, he moved to Texas to be closer to his mother. In Texas he worked at various cherry farms. Following work at the cherry farms he worked various places in the Houston area. Last he worked at Costal Casting Service in Houston. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, boating, and traveling. He was a talented artist and was proud to share his drawings, paintings, and carvings with his family and friends. His family includes his wife, Catherine Johannes of Oskaloosa; four children, Charles Hynick (Barbara Penning) of Des Moines, Sierra Dawsey Johannes of Burlington, Holly Ann Harris of Iowa, and Grayson Johannes of South Padre Island, Texas; four grandchildren, Ryan Hynick, Brianna Hynick, Makayo Dawsey, and Mahalee Dawsey; his father and step mother, Dorman and Ruth Johannes of Cedar; two sisters, Doreen Matthews of Clearwater, Florida and Brenda (Gary) Lanphier of Oskaloosa; three brothers, Deowen (Diane) Johannes of Des Moines; Kent (LaVonne) Johannes of Oskaloosa, Scott (Elizabeth) Johannes of Cedar, a step son, Nicholas Hynick of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Kevin (Tammy) Temple of Queen Creek, AZ and Kellie Brugh of Eddyville. Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Matthews; a son, Dustin Johannes; and a brother, Travis Johannes. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 16, 2021, at 2 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Steve Cox officiating burial will be in the Highland Cemetery at Eddyville. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Open visitation will be held on Friday from 12 noon until service time at 2 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family.
