Brittany Brummel

December 27, 1991 - April 15, 2022

Brittany Brummel, 30, of Oskaloosa died Friday, April 15, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital after a nearly four year battle with breast cancer. She was born December 27, 1991, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Steven and Sheila Van Helten DeKoning. She graduated from Tri-County High School with the class of 2010. Following graduation she worked at the Oskaloosa YMCA day care. On August 24, 2013, she was united in marriage to Bryan Brummel in Oskaloosa. To this union three children were born, Bentley, Braxton, and Becca. Brittany enjoyed being able to be a stay at home mom. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing especially. She also enjoyed drawing, coloring, and photography. Most of all she enjoyed being with her children, family, and friends. Her family includes her husband, Bryan Brummel of Oskaloosa, three children, Bentley, Braxton, and Becca Brummel all of Oskaloosa; her dog Flash; her mom and step dad, Shelia and Mark Nelson of Oskaloosa; her dad and stepmom, Steven and Sandy DeKoning of What Cheer; paternal grandmother, Margaret DeKoning of Leighton; a brother, Jonathan (Danielle) DeKoning; father and mother in law, Curtis and Tammy Brummel of Oskaloosa; two step sisters, Ashley (Tyron) Howard of Oskaloosa and Faith (Chris) Neal of Chillicothe, Missouri;a step brother, Dustin (Samantha Frederick) Knipfer of Keswick; and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Leroy and Patricia Van Helten; her paternal grandfather, Carroll DeKoning; two uncles, Doug Van Helten and Bob Beveridge; and an infant sibling. Visitation with the family present will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, from 4-6 in the evening at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. As was Brittany’s wish her body will be cremated following the visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family. Following visitation, the family would like to extend an invitation to join them at the DAV Building at the fairgrounds in Oskaloosa for a coffee time.
